Boy oh boy, I remember back in March when all of the lockdowns started, I thought surely - surely - we'll all be through this by fall. I never even once imagined that we would be celebrating a socially distanced Halloween. But here we are. It's fall and Halloween is just around the corner and trick or treating is not much of an option this year. 

So what are the kiddos to do this Halloween? Just because we have to stay socially distanced doesn't mean that we can't have a little fun, am I right? With that in mind, the Tesa Babe girls and I put our heads together to come up with a nice little list of fun things to do this Halloween with the family.

Dress up

There might not be a lot of things to do on Halloween, but that doesn't mean you can't still put on a costume and have a fun night as a witch or a ballerina or - heck - even a Covid 19 virus. Too soon? Okay, sorry.

Have a Zoom Halloween costume contest

Get your friends together with their little ones to parade around in their spookiest or cutest costumes and offer prizes.

Watch a spooky movie

Age appropriate of course! There are plenty of animated movies out there with spooky themes that are fun for the whole family. Coco is one of my favorites!

Trick or treat in the house

This is good especially if your children are really little. They won't know the difference. Dress your little ones up and set up different candy stations around the house. Lead your little one from station to station collecting candy while your partner rushes around the house to hand it out! If nothing else it should at least be amusing for you and your partner.

Check out a pumpkin patch

There are still plenty of pumpkin patches and corn mazes out and about. Go with the whole family to take pictures with enormous pumpkins and even take some home.

See what else is happening in town

Plenty of towns are putting on their own safe, fun Halloween events for the whole family. In my town, for example, there is a Dia de Los Muertos community shrine and celebration, as well as a trick or treat trail around town that ensures a socially distanced trick or treating experience with local shop owners. 

Although social distancing isn't ideal for a fun Halloween, we've all been doing this Covid thing long enough to get a little creative. So this Halloween, celebrate in a way that is safe, responsible, and most of all… fun!
