Announcing New Spring Line with Organic Cotton!
•Posted on February 22 2021
Hello everyone! We are so excited to announce our new exclusive spring line! As befitting springtime, our new, originally-designed styles will feature adorable garden themes and animal prints… the perfect motifs for getting out into a blooming nature!
Since spring is a time of rejuvenation, we also think it's very fitting to rejuvenate the materials we use in our garments, and to finally make good on a long-desired goal of ours: becoming a brand that is more sustainable and friendly to the planet. In this day and age, it can be overwhelming to do our part as Good Samaritans. Many of us want to be more environmentally-friendly in our daily lives, but trying to figure out how to do so is confusing at best and a headache at worst. How do we know if the products we're buying are truly organic or if they've been developed under humane circumstances? The blockchain is so long and obscure, we hardly even know where our products come from anymore.
This is why we've chosen to use GOTS certified organic cotton in our new garments. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard, which is an internationally recognized organic textile standard that takes the guesswork out of sustainable purchasing. The standard covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70 percent certified organic natural fibers. This means that every step of the way, at least 70 percent of the cotton we use is guaranteed sustainable - both environmentally and socially.
But what does that really mean? Firstly, it means that the environment is a big factor in textile production. The GOTS website states that "Organic production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. In addition, it includes welfare standards for animal husbandry and prohibits genetically modified organisms."
Secondly, it means that labor conditions in the development of GOTS certified textiles are humane. The GOTS website also assures that "The Standard sets requirements concerning working and social conditions that are equivalent to those of leading social sustainability standards. GOTS social criteria, based on the key norms of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), must be met by all processors, manufacturers and traders."
Probably the coolest thing about GOTS is that it complies with and helps contribute to the 17 United Nations Sustainability Goals. In 2015, all UN member nations agreed on 17 ambitious goals to promote environmental sustainability while helping to eradicate poverty and increase prosperity and equality throughout the world. Some of their goals include ending worldwide hunger, achieving gender equality, climate action, education, and so forth.
And did we mention… GOTS cotton is better and more comfortable for children with sensitive skin!
It is an honor for us to adopt the GOTS label and try to do our humble best for the planet. We hope that, beyond your fondness for Tesa Babe clothing, the new GOTS certification will also make you feel good about your purchases. We really believe that every little bit counts, and we are beyond happy about this new direction toward sustainability.
