Winter offers the perfect opportunity to get cozy and book in some quality time together as a family. Whether it’s snowing where you are, or whether it’s just dang cold, these winter activities are the perfect excuse to make some new family memories.

Build a snowman

What’s more wintery than building a snowman? Wait for a day when the snow is perfect for snowman-building (not too wet, not too dry) grab some materials for decorating the snowman, and get out there! For tips on how to build the perfect snowman, visit our blog post with step-by-step details!

Go ice skating

Whether you live where it snows or not, there’s bound to be an ice-skating rink. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a pro to get on the ice. Just rent some skates and cling to the walls until you’re ready! Plus, it’s pretty funny watching your kids get out on the ice for the first time!

Go sledding

Bring your sleds on down to a good lookin’ sleddin’ hill and have fun taking turns sledding down!

Go skiing/snowboarding

Any snowy mountain town worth its salt will have some skiing and sledding nearby. It’s an excellent way to get some exercise during the winter, and it’s lots of fun teaching the kids how to get on the board/skis.

Have a movie marathon

When the weather is just too lousy to do anything outside, have a cozy day or night in with your favorite movies and your favorite people. Add some hot coco and popcorn to the mix to reach maximum coziness! Or build a pillow fort for some added adventure.

Have a family game day/night

If the weather remains lousy, break out the cards and the boardgames. Order in some pizza and get in the competitive spirit!

Have a home spa day

You know those face masks you’ve had in your bathroom cabinet for who knows how long? Well, it’s time to break them out now. And while you’re at it, take out the nail files and nail polish to do some home manis and pedis. Better yet, organize the family into a “massage line” to take turns rubbing each other’s shoulders for the full spa experience.

Get baking

Pull out some family baking recipes or look up your favorite treats so you can make them at home. If you’re up for a fun and tasty challenge, visit our blog post on how to make a gingerbread house from scratch.

Make winter-time crafts

Get out the crayons, paints, paper, and scissors! It’s time to make some wintery crafts. From paper snowflakes to Christmas wreaths to winter wonderland paintings, turn a wintery day into an arts and crafts day!

Volunteer

Head down to the local food bank or to the animal shelter to do a good deed together as a family. It’s a great way to spend a wintery day, plus it’s a nice lesson for the kiddos about giving to those less fortunate.
